FlashCon logo.Gordon Spaeth, Gamer in Chief of FlashCon, reminds that the  next family game day takes place Sunday, February 17th at the Howe Library in Hanover, New Hampshire:

Chase away the dreaded winter time malaise with the second installment of FlashCon Family Game Days at the Howe Library in Hanover this Sunday, February 17th, from 1pm to 5pm. As usual, we will have tons of games for you to play, learn, examine and the like. I believe we may also have a 4E Dungeons and Dragons session for kids. More on that as information comes in. I encourage everyone to post… any games that they are interested in playing, sharing, or teaching on Sunday. My collection is pretty good, but I know that there are many other popular games that I don’t have. Let the rest of us know what they are and maybe someone who owns it will be willing to bring it. We look forward to seeing all of you there.

2012 Canpocalypse Collects Donations for Local Food Pantry

Over at Triple Play, the friendly local game store in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, Warhammer 40k gamers will gather for the 2012 Canpocalypse tournament on Saturday, November 18th. This tournament is a little different from your every day, year-round variety. At Canpocalypse, the entry fee for this tournament is two cans of food.

See, Canpocalypse rounds up donations from participating players to donate to the local food pantry. Two cans gets one entry into the tournament. Further donations garner players extra perks like units from another codex, up to a super-heavy vehicle. Players are motivated to donate more canned goods as it allows them to field additional or non-standard units.

Like Extra Life, which game stores Triple Play and Quarterstaff Games both participated in, Canpocalypse is a great way of tying the gaming hobby to a charitable cause. Thanks go to everyone who participates — or is motivated to make a donation of their own, player or not — and to Triple Play for putting the whole shindig on.

FlashCon Gaming Mini-Convention Comes to West Lebanon

FlashCon is a burgeoning series of tabletop gaming events popping up around the Upper Valley. Organizer Gordon Spaeth announced via the FlashCon Facebook page that the next game day is set for March 25th at the Kilton Public Library in West Lebanon, New Hampshire.

FlashCons are short, agile events designed to be accessible to newcomers and long-time game hobbyists. The event is divided into two parts: a short block of time and a second, longer block. This model allows for shorter games and teaching sessions to start off FlashCon, then players can launch into longer games in the second part.

If you can’t make it that day or West Lebanon isn’t quite in your neighborhood, go ahead and follow the Facebook page. A FlashCon is bound to pop up somewhere near you.
