Stellafane And Springfield’s Stargazing History

The 80th Stellafane Convention will be held this year from August 13-16.

Vermont Edition will be focusing on star gazing and astronomy today!

Since the 1920s, the Springfield Telescope Makers have been hosting the annual Stellafane Convention. This year’s convention will run from August 13-16.

We’re looking at the long history of Stellafane, and how Springfield became a center for amateur astronomy and a pilgrimage site for telescope-makers and stargazers of every stripe.

And we’ll ask: can home-made telescopes and astronomy still capture the imagination in an era of smart phones and a thousand other distractions?

We’re joined by Tom Spirock, member and former Secretary of the Springfield Telescope Makers.

Listen at noon and at seven.
